Fucked Up: stream new album “David Comes To Life” via NPR + touring(Philly date)

leave a comment »

The Toronto band with an inappropriate name, Fucked Up, have a new record David Comes To Life coming June 7th via Matador Records. It’s a concept album that’s broken down into four separate acts. Some are calling it a ‘rock opera’. That description makes me cringe a bit because it makes me think of Green Day’s “American Idiot”. That being said though, I have complete faith in Fucked Up and their music. Below you can watch a 10 minute documentary on the new album and if you head over to NPR, you can stream the entire album right now. Head over here to read the entire story of the album.

They’ll be in Philly later this month at the First Unitarian Church on Sunday, June 26th with Jeff The Brotherhood. Tickets for the show can be found HERE. This show is going to be a hot, sweaty mess in the basement of the church.

Bon Iver: new album in June + tour dates(Tower Theatre/tickets on sale soon)

with one comment

Bon Iver @ Bonnaroo 2009

Bon Iver is back after quite a lengthy hiatus where members, leadman Justin Vernon in particular, collaborated with others as well as working on solo stuff. Most notably, Vernon contributed to Kanye West’s most recent album and even performed with him at Coachella. He/they will release their sophomore album, Bon Iver Bon Iver on June 21st via JagjaguwarAccording to our friend Mark at YVYNYL, the album is “quite good, but challenging for sure.” Hmm…I guess we’ll have to wait and see what he means. Until then, check out a short snippet of a new song below.

So far only a few dates have been announced including a show at the Tower Theatre on Wednesday, August 3rd. Tickets for the show go on sale Friday, May 13th. You’ll be able to find them HERE.

leave a comment »

Kurt Vile & the Violators played the World Cafe Live last night opening up for J Mascis. We weren’t there, but a Youtuber was so their video is below. If you missed the show, don’t fret cause he will be back in the summer. He’s playing the First Unitarian Church on  Sunday, June 12th with Pissed Jeans. Tickets are not on sale yet, but the NYC show at Bowery Ballroom is the day before this one and goes on sale April 1st. So the Philly show should be on sale around then. Either way, we’ll post a link when they do. UPDATE: Tickets for the show can be found HERE.

Also he was in Austin last week for SXSW, where he played a bunch of shows and got his equipment stolen. Videos of a SXSW show and Kurt explaining what happened are below too.

Arctic Monkeys schedule US tour(Electric Factory) + new video/song

leave a comment »

English quartet Arctic Monkeys released a new song last week “Brick By Brick” accompanied by a video as well. The song keeps to their original formula of guitar driven music but the vocals seem a little bit different. It’s sounds as if lead singer Alex Turner is not singing the lead role. Maybe I’m wrong? Anyway, check it out below.

Also, the band will head out on a US tour in May, where they will supposedly test out some new material. Hopefully they’ll play some old stuff too. The tour stops in Philly on Wednesday, May 18th at the Electric Factory. Tickets for the show go on sale Saturday(03/12) and will be found HERE.
