Keepaway release their EP “Kompetitor” for FREE

leave a comment »

Keepaway is a Brooklyn band comprised of three young guys who are offering their EP Kompetitor for FREE via their bandcamp page. They kind of have an Animal Collective sound to them with a little mix of MGMT circa Congratulations. Kind of a weird mix, but it’s good. The EP represents the past few months and what’s to come from the band. Their crazy friends Das Racist make an appearance on the EP too. Check it out below.

North Philly band BANDNAME to play FREE record release party tonight at El Bar

leave a comment »

If you’re looking to see some good live music for free tonight then Bandname‘s record release party is just the thing for you. The North Philly punk rock trio will be celebrating the release of their debut full length album Breakfast at the El Bar(click here for map) with their friends Conversations With Enemies, Cow Pals, Peter the Pianoeater, and Beach Combers. They spent the last several months writing/recording and they’re now ready to share it with the world. The band has the classic Philly lo-fi sound to them with driving drums and loud distorted guitars. Their songs give the audience plenty of opportunities to join in and sing along. Tonight’s show is a guaranteed good time and the best part about it is that its FREE!

Also, tonight’s show is considered to be BYOB(Bring Your Own Breakfast). Kinda strange, but if you bring a piece of breakfast food or dress up as breakfast food, you will get an original piece of art from the band. Pretty weird, but totally awesome.

Girl Talk’s new album “All Day” out now + download for FREE

leave a comment »

Girl Talk aka Gregg Gillis surprised us all today by announcing the release of his new album All Day. It’s available right now and it’s FREE! You can get it HERE. (Just a heads up.. It appears that the site is getting a ton of traffic because it’s taking a very long time for the download to even start.)Details about the album below.

In related news, Girl Talk will hit the road in 2011 and will make a stop in Philadelphia at the Electric Factory in February. More details about the show can be found HERE.

Celebrating 10-plus years of sample-obsessed production and relentless touring, Gregg Gillis returns with All Day, his fifth album as Girl Talk, and his most epic, densely layered, and meticulously composed musical statement to date.  Continuing the saga from the previously acclaimed albums, Night Ripper and Feed The Animals, Gillis lays down a more diverse range of samples to unfold a larger dynamic between slower transitions and extreme cut-ups.  With the grand intent of creating the most insane and complex pop collage album ever heard, large catalogs of both blatantly appropriated melodies and blasts of unrecognizable fragments were assembled for the ultimate Girl Talk record (clocking in at 71 minutes and 373 samples).” -via Pitch Perfect PR
