leave a comment »

Toro Y Moi released another new track from his upcoming record Underneath The Pine, which drops February 22nd via Carpark Records. “New Beat” kind of has a 70’s disco vibe to it. Pretty different than the first song he released– “Still Sound”. Check out “New Beat” below.

Sidenote: Toro Y Moi will be in Philly on Tuesday, April 12th at the First Unitarian Church. Tickets for the show can be found HERE. (Last time he was here, his show sold out so grab your tickets soon!)

Explosions In The Sky announce new album

leave a comment »

One of my favorite bands, Explosions In The Sky, announced today on their website that they will release their new album Take Care, Take Care, Take Care on April 26th via Temporary Residence Limited. The record was recorded and produced by EITS themselves along with John Congleton on a pecan ranch in West Texas. The band also had this to say about the album, “The music on it feels different than anything else we’ve done before and we’re very excited for you to hear it.” Lets all hope EITS hit the road shortly after the release of the album.

The Strokes announce “Angles” release date/tracklist + promise US spring tour

leave a comment »

The Strokes have announced the release date of their highly anticipated fourth album titled, Angles. Along with that announcement, they hinted at a spring US tour. We’ll fill you in when they do announce that tour. More details about everything below.

The Strokes announce the release date for their highly anticipated fourth album, Angles, on March 22nd via RCA records in the US, and March 21st via Rough Trade Records in the UK. A new single titled “Under Cover of Darkness,” will be heard on radio starting in February. The complete track-listing for the album can be found below. More details on Angles will be released in the coming weeks, as will details for a Spring US tour.

Angles is the band’s first new release since 2006’s First Impressions of Earth and marks the ambition of that album with the immediacy of the band’s earlier albums Is This It (2001) and Room On Fire (2003).  In 2010, the band returned to the road, playing and headlining major festivals in the United States and UK, including the Isle of Wight Festival, Lollapalooza, Hurricane Festival, Splendour In The Grass, Rockness, Outside Lands, and Austin City Limits. Time Out Chicago hailed the Lollapalooza performance as “the best set I’ve seen since covering Lollapalooza. Better than Radiohead in 2008. Better than… who headlined last year? …The crowd…was euphoric.”” via a press release

Angles track listing:

1. Machu Picchu
2. Under Cover of Darkness
3. Two Kinds of Happiness
4. You’re So Right
5. Taken For A Fool
6. Games
7. Call Me Back
8. Gratisfaction
9. Metabolism
10. Life Is Simple In The Moonlight

Sharon Van Etten, Julianna Barwick at Johnny Brendas 01/20/2011 (words/photos)

Last night’s show with Sharon Van Etten and Julianna Barwick was nothing short of amazing. Unfortunately I didn’t catch Strand of Oaks, but from what I heard from conversation, they put on a decent performance as well.

Julianna performed solo, and through the use of a loop and sampler, she was able to craft a beautiful creation of layered harmonies. It was lovely to see the way she performed and how intuitive her ear was for instrumental voice.

Sharon’s set was by far the highlight of 2011 thus far. Playing material from her latest record, Epic, which was recorded here in Philadelphia with Brian McTear, the crowd saw and heard her songs underscoring how truly wonderful her voice is. There is a powerful, instinctive quality about Sharon’s voice that carried through the venue and into the ears and hearts of those present. You could feel the honesty in the music, something you don’t necessarily feel nearly enough. It was a sincerely remarkable and touching show from Sharon and her guests. Photos below
