Local Natives at the Trocadero Theatre 10/27/2010 (photo + videos)

Local Natives played a sold out show on Wednesday night at the Trocadero Theatre in Chinatown. It’s amazing how this band went from a virtually unknown band to an extremely well-known band selling out large venues. They are seizing their opportunity and killing it every step of the way. Their live show is very tight and precise. Not too many bands out there can pull off the harmonies they hit. If these guys put out another solid record, they’ll be playing even bigger venues soon. Photo and videos below.

Local Natives playing Trocadero tonight + released new video

with one comment

These five dudes from California released their debut record, Gorilla Manor, in February of this year and have been on quite a tear since then. They’ve toured the country and have hit all the major festivals in the US and Europe. The album offers beautifully crafted vocal harmonies, intricate drumming and whacky guitar riffs, all with a refreshing feel. It’s the perfect mixture for their SoCal style.

They just played a sold out show in the sanctuary of the First Unitarian Church in August. Tonight, the band will play the even bigger Trocadero Theatre. Tickets for the show are still available and can be found HERE. Just a heads up, according to a tweet from R5 Productions, there are less than 100 tickets left.

N.E.R.D Interview #2

leave a comment »

A few weeks ago, my friend and I interviewed Pharrell Williams and Shae Hayle from N.E.R.D. We sat down with them in their tour bus after they opened for Gorillaz at the Susquehanna Center. The guys have a new record, Nothing, coming November 2nd so we asked them about new music, their production process and more. Check the interview and portrait shots below.

Colin: Alright, so you guys have a new record coming, Nothing. I know the album release date.. like Shay when I spoke to you a while ago you were saying June 15th. It keeps getting pushed back, what’s going on there?

Pharrell: It’s really coming this time. It’s that a) we’re perfectionists, and b) we happen to just be really good at pushing album dates back. Not on purpose, but just trying to get it right.

Colin: So when you said June 15, did you think the album was done, or did you guys just keep toying and adding stuff?

Shay: Well, we felt like the album was done, and we were super content with it. But we have like a roundtable every Tuesday with all the politics that be, or the powers that be I should say. And they didn’t feel like it was done, so we had to go make some tweaks, add some additions, subtract some shit, and you know, perfect it.

You can read the rest of the interview HERE

Side note: I interviewed Shae last April before they played at Temple University. That interview can be found HERE

French band Phoenix played a sold out show last night at Madison Square Garden in New York City. As a special treat for the concert goers, Daft Punk joined their fellow compatriots on stage for a few songs including ‘1901’ and ‘Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger”. Check the videos below to see how awesome it was. It will probably make you jealous that you were not there. Enjoy!

Sidenote: Phoenix will play the Tower Theatre on Saturday(10/23) night. Tickets are still available and can be found HERE. Daft Punk will most likely NOT be there so don’t get your hopes up.
